At the January stated meeting, the following committee appointments were made. By having more active committees it is hoped that we can develop a variety of activities that will attract more of the brethren to participation in the lodge. I am still working on officer appointments for Senior Steward, Junior Deacon and Senior Deacon.

Any and all volunteers to serve on these or any other committees will be gladly accepted. As always, the Lodge room is open every Thursday night for fellowship, practice, meetings or whatever the brethren would like to do. We also meet for dinner at the Red Fez at 6:00 every Thursday. I would like to get know more of my Lodge Brothers, so come up and see us sometime, even if it is just to say “Hi”. Congratulations and welcome are in order to our newest Master Mason, Jay David. Brother David was raised to the sublime degree of Master Mason on December 11, 2008. Thanks are also due to the lodge brothers and visitors who were present to put on the degree.

I would again like to extend my thanks and deepest appreciation to my brothers who have given Lily and myself moral and other support during the past few months. I just can not express how much it has meant to us.

NOTICE

At the February 5, 2009 Stated Meeting there will be a Special Election for the Master of Thunderbird Lodge #15. The circumstances are that the Master Elect, Jeff Grayson PM, was hospitalized and was not able to be installed at the Installation of Officers. By the time he had recovered, his time to be installed had been expired. Arizona Masonic Code states that the elected officers of a lodge are to be installed within 60 days of the election. If an elected officer cannot be installed within this time, the previous office holder remains in that position until a Special Election can be held to re-elect a brother to that office.

It is with deep regret that we report the passing of Bro. Harrell Shaw Richmond, known as “Hal”. Brother Richmond, born on June 8, 1917, was a member of Thunderbird #48, and passed on December 31, 2008 in Scottsdale. He was a retired Greyhound bus driver, World War II veteran and owned an electronics store. He was initiated on March 15, 1954, passed on May 21, 1954 and raised on June 11, 1954 in the old Thunderbird Lodge #48 building at Baseline and Central Ave. in Phoenix. Masonic services were attended by Bob Bell PM, Jim Drake PM and Clinton Molodow with John Ruth PM, Sojourner’s Lodge, presiding.

From the Secretary:

We really appreciate your continued membership in Thunderbird #15. It has been a pleasure serving as Master for three years and I am committed to serving my Brothers in any way I can now as Secretary. If you have any problems or questions that I can help resolve, please give me a call at 480-756-1105. We have some members who have not paid their 2009 dues and a second notice has been sent out. A current dues card is required to attend any meeting of a tiled Lodge. Non-payment of dues can also cause problems with any other Masonic affiliations a Brother may have. If anyone has any questions about dues payments, please contact me.

I also have a list of lodge brothers who have had mail returned to us as “Moved – undeliverable”. If anyon knows the whereabouts of the following brothers, please let me know as I would like to re-establish contact with our lost members.

2008-2009 Grand Lodge Scholarships

Applications for the 2008-2009 Grand Lodge Scholarship Program are now available from the Secretary, Jim Drake. The deadline for completing the application and other documents is March 1, 2009. The completed application and other documents are to be submitted to the lodge Secretary by that date. Applications will be reviewed and forwarded to the Grand Lodge Scholarship Committee, which will consider the applications and notify the recipients in late May – June 2009.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: Be the son, daughter, grandson or granddaughter of an Arizona Master Mason, or be an Arizona member (or an Arizona senior/majority member) of DeMolay, Rainbow for Girls or Job’s Daughters. Applicants must be single and planning to attend an Arizona public University or Community College.

Due to the considerable work that must be done by applicants to complete the application and compile the necessary documents, it is urged that interested applicants not delay in obtaining an application and beginning the application process.
