From the
East:
Well, the picnic on April 15 was a good time for all
who attended. We had hamburgers and hot dogs and a lot of other assorted
goodies. Michael Gattorna did the grilling and did a
good job of it. I don’t know how he got those last few burgers done for the
late comers, because those briquettes were getting pretty spent. We had 25 or
30 people in attendance and a lot of fellowship, including a guest who wants to
petition to be a member of the lodge. The only thing that could have made it
better would have been having more people to shoot the breeze with. If anyone
wants to put together a committee to do one of these later in the year, I would
entertain a proposal from the floor.
We also need to get to work on the reunion.
We’re still looking for any memorabilia and photos we could copy or display for
this event. We have the hall rented. All that is left to do is everything else.
Menu selection, costs, decorations, widow’s program, guest speakers, and so
forth still need to be figured out, and information sent out to the brothers.
We have a committee of three right now and could use
more. With some work and planning, this event could be well attended and as much fun if not more than the picnic.
The
by-laws changes were read at the last meeting. Each section or subsection which has proposed changes in it were read. There
will be a vote on making the proposed changes at the May stated meeting on May
4. See our website under “Trestleboard” for the
complete text of By-Laws with proposed changes as read at the April Stated
Meeting. We had two more petitions from
men who wish to join our lodge and one reinstatement read at the last meeting,
too. With the voting on the by-laws scheduled for the May meeting and other
petitions to be voted on, it will be a busy meeting.
We were also saddened to learn of some sickness and
distress amongst our lodge brothers. Les Weatherly was sick and in ICU at Saint
Luke’s hospital for two weeks in March. Carl Glenn had a stroke and is now in a
group home. We all need to pray for these brothers to have as complete and
rapid a recovery as possible.
We have a Third Degree scheduled for May 18 at
This is the first third
degree we have put on in almost two years, and I would like it to be a good
one. We will have some practice after the Trustee’s meeting next week, and on
May 11 at
Fraternally
