From the East:

Well, we tried for quite a while to have a degree ceremony where we obligated two candidates, and we finally did it. On July 29, Breton Hill and Brian Mack were initiated as our newest Entered Apprentices, and both are hard at work on their proficiencies, so a couple of second degrees should be in the near future. I want to thank all Brothers who turned out to help out with the ceremony and to be on the sidelines, and especially the brethren from Chandler Lodge No. 34 who filled in some of the Officer’s positions. Steve Smith, Senior Warden from Chandler, gave the lecture and charge.

In this Trestleboard, there is a flyer for the Reunion Dinner we have been talking about for some time. If you come to Lodge only once a year, this is the event to come to. A full course dinner will be served, and there will be entertainment and education, the specifics of which will be in the next Trestleboard. We will also have pin presentations and a widow’s program on this evening. Most importantly, I would like brethren from the lodge get together for an evening of fellowship. Whooping it up about the good old days and the good new days. Many of our brothers live outside the Phoenix, and if you live in more northern climes, November is a good time of year to get away Phoenix and visit your Lodge brothers. Reservations with payment have to be in to the lodge by October 26, so we can make our food and table reservations.

It was sad news for the brethren of Thunderbird 15 that Worshipful Brother Richard Hudson passed on to the heavenly lodge on July 24. Brother Richard was a native Arizonan, born in Jerome in 1930 and worked for Salt River Project for 34 years. He was raised in Tempe 15 in May, 1956 and was active in his community his entire life, as a Shrine Clown, Boy Scout leader, Pop Warner Football and with his Church, and was a Korean War veteran. He wanted to do his part to bring up good men. He had been very active in the Lodge, serving as Worshipful Master first at Tempe 15, then at Thunderbird 15. He was also our mentor and worked with many of our brothers to pass their proficiencies, and was skilled in Masonic history and lore. Nearly all the officers in our present line had some training from Richard. He will be missed by our lodge, as well as his wife, Barbara, his three sons and eight grandchildren.

Masonic Services were held at Carr Tenney Mortuary on July 30, with many Masons and Shriners in attendance, including a past Grand Master. Interment was at Greenwood Memory Lawn Cemetery in Phoenix. The family requested donations, in lieu of flowers, to Chandler Methodist Church Building Fund, 251 W. Chandler Blvd., Chandler, Az., 85225. The condolences of the Lodge go out to Barbara and the rest of the family.
